In the current era of high-quality development in the mineral powder industry, the application scope of ultrafine mineral powders continues to expand—from construction materials and plastic/rubber fillers to advanced ceramics and deep processing of rare earths—placing increasingly stringent demands on powder fineness, purity, and particle-size uniformity. Thanks to its unique technological advantages, the vertical cell mill has emerged as the preferred equipment for ultrafine processing of mineral powders, driving a transformative shift in the industry from “extensive processing” to “precision-driven value addition.”

First, the particle size is finer and the size distribution is more uniform; the milled mineral powder exhibits a spherical or near-spherical morphology with a narrow particle-size distribution (typically unimodal or bimodal). Compared with conventionally dry-milled mineral powders, which are irregular in shape, highly angular, and have a broad size distribution, the milled product demonstrates significantly improved dispersibility and flowability. When used in plastics, rubber, coatings, and other applications, it achieves better compatibility with the matrix material, thereby enhancing overall product performance. Second, the purity is higher and impurity levels are lower, as metallic and coarse particulate impurities are effectively removed, elevating the grade of the mineral powder and enabling its direct application in high-end sectors. For example, nano-sized mineral powders can be employed in advanced ceramics and lithium-battery precursors, substantially increasing the added value of the product. Third, the performance is more stable: the milled powder features uniform particle size and high compositional purity, resulting in more consistent physicochemical properties. This stability ensures consistent product quality throughout downstream processes—such as concrete mix design, ceramic firing, and coating formulation—thereby reducing the incidence of nonconforming products. Fourth, the applicability is broader: ultrafine, high-purity mineral powders can be extended to an even wider range of high-end applications, breaking the limitations of traditional mineral powder uses, helping companies expand their market reach, and enhancing their ability to command premium pricing.

Taking the processing of calcium carbonate mineral powder as an example, wet grinding using a cell mill can produce Ultrafine calcium carbonate powder with a particle size of 3,000 mesh or finer can achieve a sub-2 μm fraction of over 90%, making it suitable not only for high-end construction materials but also as a filler in plastics and rubbers—and even as an additive in the food and pharmaceutical industries—thereby increasing the product’s value-added by 3 to 5 times. Similarly, in the processing of mica and talc powders, cell mills can grind these minerals to ultrafine particle sizes, enhancing their performance in coatings and cosmetics and enabling ordinary mineral powders to make a leap toward “quality improvement and value enhancement.”
