When heavy calcium carbonate is used in plastic, masterbatch, rubber, and other systems, stearic acid or other surface‑treating agents are often employed to enhance compatibility between the particles and the organic matrix. The key to a blending modifier is not “the longer you mix, the better,” but rather ensuring that a small amount of modifier uniformly contacts the large surface area of the powder. The finer the heavy calcium carbonate, the greater its specific surface area; consequently, the total surface area that must be treated per ton of product also varies. Therefore, the dosage of the modifying agent in an active coating machine cannot be fixed at a constant ratio over the long term.

The honeycomb mill can introduce modifiers during the continuous dispersion of powders and use hot air to control powder temperature, facilitating more uniform coating. In practical production, a process window must be established based on feed particle size, powder temperature, spray‑injection position, atomization conditions, and residence time. Following modification, activation degree, oil absorption value, hydrophobicity, and particle‑size distribution should be evaluated, with application tests conducted using masterbatches or filled systems to validate the results. Only when downstream performance is improved can it be concluded that the coating process has truly delivered the desired effect.
